Atlas Entertainment and Legendary Pictures in association with Blizzard Entertainment and Liberty Films are in pre-production on the Warner Bros. Pictures epic fantasy adventure feature film “Warcraft”, which is now scheduled to begin shooting in Vancouver on January 13, 2014. The project has been going by the working title of “Conflagration”, which is a term describing a powerful fire spell, used by several bosses in World of Warcraft. This film is based on the franchise of video games and novels by Blizzard Entertainment. The twelve-time Casting Society of America Artios Award nominated casting director for the film will begin auditioning talent for lead roles, and subsequently supporting roles. This particular casting director was brought in to cast a role for a camera test that was shot on June 4, 2013. The role was described as a late 30’s male with an athletic muscular build and nice jaw line, handsome in a manly worldly way, with a “face worthy of a Sergio Leone close up”. The extras for the movie will be cast throughout production in Vancouver.
Chris Metzen, Blizzard’s VP of Creative Development, stated that the “Warcraft” film was originally set in the era of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, however that idea was dropped. It was believed that the story would be too similar to “The Lord of the Rings”, and that Warcraft had reached its current level of popularity through its Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), rather than the previous Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games. The movie will primarily be told from the Alliance’s point of view, though Chris Metzen says his heart lies with the Horde. Metzen said that the main character is set to be a new hero described as a “kick-ass Human” and an “Anti-Thrall”.
BAFTA Film Award winner Duncan Jones will direct “Warcraft” from an original screenplay written by Charles Leavitt based on characters by Chris Metzen. Jones is an English filmmaker who is well respected for directing award-winning science fiction films. He is a graduate of the prestigious London Film School, and his directorial credits include the feature film “Moon” starring Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey, which was nominated for seven British Independent Film Awards. Jones also directed the Summit Entertainment feature film “Source Code” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, and Michelle Monaghan. Duncan will direct the upcoming “Untitled Ian Fleming Biopic” prior to shooting “Warcraft”.
AFI Award winner Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will produce “Warcraft” for Atlas Entertainment. Legendary Pictures Chairman and CEO Thomas Tull will produce with President and CCO Jon Jashni. Chris Metzen will co-produce. Metzen created the fictional universes and scripts for Blizzard Entertainment’s three major award-winning media franchises: Warcraft, Diablo and StarCraft. Blizzard Entertainment President Michael Morhaime will executive produce along with Stuart Fenegan of Liberty Films. Brent O’Connor and Paul W. Sams will also exec produce. Warner Bros. will handle domestic distribution. “Warcraft” is tentatively scheduled for a 2015 release.

Story:
His evil is legend. Lord of the undead Scourge, wielder of the runeblade Frostmourne, and enemy of the free peoples of Azeroth. The Lich King is an entity of incalculable power and unparalleled malice – his icy soul utterly consumed by his plans to destroy all life on the World of Warcraft. But it was not always so. Long before his soul was fused with that of the orc shaman Ner’zhul, the Lich King was Arthas Menethil, crown prince of Lordaeron and faithful paladin of the Silver Hand. When a plague of undeath threatened all that he loved, Arthas was driven to pursue an ill-fated quest for a runeblade powerful enough to save his homeland. Yet the object of his search would exact a heavy price from its new master, beginning a horrifying descent into damnation. Arthas’s path would lead him through the arctic northern wastes toward the Frozen Throne, where he would face, at long last, the darkest of destinies.
