The big screen remake of the popular 1984 film Footloose is finally moving forward after Paramount Studios has hired writer/director Craig Brewer to helm the film. The lead role was originally intended for Zac Efron, and the directing duties were assigned to ‘High School Musical’ franchise director Kenny Ortega. Both backed out of the film and Chace Crawford was set to play the lead, however due to scheduling conflicts with Gossip Girl, Crawford has backed out.
Now word has it that Paramount Pictures will conduct a nationwide talent search to discover an unknown actor to fill the lead role originally played by Kevin Bacon in the 80’s classic. Dancing With The Stars alum Julianne Hough has been cast as the female lead.
Open casting calls and talent search details will be posted here as they become available. Filming begins July 12, 2010 in Tennessee and Georgia.
