Update 4-4-2011: Mexican star Diego González Boneta has been cast to play the role of singer-guitarist Drew Boley. Boneta is a Mexican singer and actor. He is best known for playing Rocco in the Mexican soap opera Rebelde and recurring character Javier Luna in the spin-off series 90210.
New Line Cinema has already issued a national American and Canadian online open casting call and talent search for the upcoming feature film production of the Broadway Play “Rock of Ages,” and has now scheduled an in-person open casting call in Los Angeles for the film’s lead role.
Two time Primetime Emmy award nominated Adam Shankman will serve as Producer, Director, and Choreographer. New Line Cinema and Shankman are conducting an extensive talent search for male actors between 18-25 who have a “real genuine Rock ‘n’ Roll singing voice” and great on-stage movement. American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis played the lead role of Drew Boley on Broadway to fantastic reviews, and has expressed his displeasure with the studios choice not to cast him in the film version.
Principal photography is scheduled to begin on May 19, 2011. The shooting locations will be in Los Angeles and Miami. Warner Bros. Pictures will handle the film’s distribution.
Open Casting Call Details
NOTE: Central Casting is NOT casting this lead role for “Rock of Ages,” but rather are assisting the principal actor casting directors with the open casting calls. Central Casting is however, handling the extras casting for the Los Angeles portion of filming.

Super handsome leading man looks and a nice guy, despite the tough-guy duds, Drew is an aspiring rocker, a talented singer/guitarist who’s already working with a band. Immediately smitten by the lovely and naive, yet talented Sherrie, he’s currently working behind the scenes at the legendary Bourbon Room, stoked when he finally gets a chance to open for a major star. Later, a mortified Drew is signed by a manager who insists on turning him into the next homogenized teeny bopper.
