Alcon Entertainment and Pool Mate Pictures are gearing up to begin production on the Warner Bros. Pictures feature film sequel “Dolphin Tale 2”. The Primetime Emmy Award winning casting directors in Los Angeles and New York are auditioning actors for starring and co-starring roles. Additional casting will take place in Florida, where shooting is scheduled to commence on October 21, 2013. The photo-doubles and stand-ins for the films principal actors, as well as general extras and featured background actors are now being cast and will continue throughout production.

“Dolphin Tale 2” will continue the adventures on Winter, a bottlenose dolphin that was rescued in December 2005 off the Florida coast and taken in by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Winter lost her tail after becoming entangled with a rope attached to a crab trap and was fitted with a prosthetic one. The film will tell the story of a new dolphin, a baby named Hope who was also saved and rehabilitated by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in 2010. Two 80,000-foot stranding pools were constructed for the first film on the Clearwater Marine Aquarium property and, when filming wrapped, the Aquarium got to keep the pools and use them to rehab dolphins.

Returning to star in the sequel is five-time Young Artist Awards nominee Nathan Gamble, who played the role of Sawyer Nelson; Young Artist Awards nominee Cozi Zuehlsdorff as Hazel Haskett; two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner Harry Connick Jr. as Dr. Clay Haskett; two-time Golden Globe Award nominee Ashley Judd as Lorraine Nelson; Academy Award nominee Kris Kristofferson as Reed Haskett; Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman as Dr. Cameron McCarthy; and of course, Winter as herself.

BAFTA Awards nominee Charles Martin Smith returns to direct “Dolphin Tale 2” from an original screenplay written by himself. Charles Martin Smith is also a well recognized actor who starred such films as George Lucas’s 1973 film “American Graffiti,” “The Buddy Holly Story,” “Starman,” and “The Untouchables”. His feature film directorial credits include the Walt Disney Pictures film “Air Bud,” “The Snow Walker,” and “Stone of Destiny”. He will next direct “The McLean Boys” starring Donald Sutherland, and “Stranded”.

Academy Award nominee and Alcon Entertainment co-president Andrew A. Kosove will produce “Dolphin Tale 2” along with Alcon president of marketing Richard Ingber. Academy Award nominee Broderick Johnson will also produce. Kosove, Ingber, and Johnson were also producers of “Dolphin Tale”. Executive producer is Alcon executive vice president of development Steven P. Wegner. Warner Bros. will handle both domestic and international distribution.

Florida Governor Rick Scott announced that $5 million from the 2013-14 Florida Families First general revenue budget will pay for part of “Dolphin Tale 2” production. The first Dolphin Tale movie had over 55 production days in 2010 and added $17 million in revenue to the state, including paychecks totaling slightly more than $7.5 million for nearly 1,300 Floridians working as crew members, actors and extras.
