“Game of Thrones” is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels. Originally, each season was to be done on a book-by-book strategy. However, season four will draw material from books four and five, titled A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons respectively. There will be at least three new main roles being cast for season four. Oberyn Martell is an influential member of the Martell family. Mace Tyrell is the father of Loras and Margaery Tyrell. The great warrior Magnar of Thenn rounds out the first three new announced characters.
Among the talent returning for season four is Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Emilia Clarke in the immensly popular role of Daenerys Targaryen. Four-time Saturn Award nominee Lena Headey is back as the beautiful yet greedy, cruel and manipulative Cersei Lannister. Golden Globe Award nominee Peter Dinklage continues his role as the intelligent and wity outcast Tyrion Lannister. Young Artist Awards nominee Maisie Williams returns as the wild and carefree Arya Stark. Irish Film and Television Awards nominee Michelle Fairley moves forward with her role as Catelyn Stark. English actress Natalie Dormer is back as Margaery Tyrell.
Three-time Primetime Emmy Award nominees D.B. Weiss and David Benioff created “Game of Thrones” for HBO and serve as executive producers and showrunners on the series. Weiss and Benioff have been good friends since college. Also executive producing is three-time Primetime Emmy Award winner Frank Doelger, and two-time Primetime Emmy Award nominees Carolyn Strauss and Bernadette Caulfield. Directors:
Various directors work different episodes during the season. In television shows composed of individual episodes, the television director’s role differs from that of a film director in that he or she may work only on some television episodes as opposed to the director of an entire film production. In episodic television productions, the major creative control resides with a producer of the show. The television producer(s) with creative control is called the showrunner(s) (in this case, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss).

Story:
Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men… all will play the ‘Game of Thrones.’
