Story:
An apocalyptic event killed millions and left the world inhabited by ghosts. Ghosts can’t communicate or touch people in this world. The ghost remnants exist and appear as if they were in a routine. The film opens nine years after the event in a small town (Greenville, Illinois). Dreading the alarm clock that’s buzzing next to her bed, we meet our heroine, Veronica “Ronnie” Calder (Thorne). She lives alone with her mom ever since her
father died during the event; something that Ronnie can’t get over. She’s never dealt with her father’s death and it surely doesn’t help that his ghost remnant spirit joins them for breakfast every morning. One morning in the bathroom, Ronnie is freaked out by an attractive teenage ghost named Brian. He has written a word on the mirror before he vanishes. Ronnie looks at the word on the mirror: RUN. Looking for someone to explain to her if
a ghost can actually communicate to the living, her teacher, August Bittner, tells her it’s not possible. August Bittner is a charming and smart man. He has a daughter, Eva, who is Ronnie’s age. He assures Ronnie that know ghost is trying to kill her. Later at school, a popular, handsome boy (Kirk) tells Ronnie that a ghost appeared to him and he saw a vision of Ronnie choked and dead in a ghost’s eye. The two decide to team up and investigate. They soon discover that the pastor’s daughter, Mary Greer, was killed and abducted a few days from now, four years ago. The date of Mary Greer’s birthday is on a leap year… the same birth date as Ronnie. Three other girls had died, and everything linked back to them working for a Dr. Steiner. They meet Dr. Steiner, who now lives in a homeless shelter. He tells them of his theory: that you can bring the dead back to life by
transferring their spirit into the body of another in the moments immediately after their death. The catch must be that the dead and the living share the same birth date.
