While looking for science project ideas in his late father’s possessions, he discovers an old briefcase and uncovers something that could change his life forever. Filmmaker Dean Israelite will direct his feature film debut from an original screenplay written by Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark. To date, Israelite has only written and directed three short films. “Magician” was a drama about one man’s journey to find the magic of his childhood, if he is to save his daughter and reclaim his past. “The Department of Nothing” was about an eleven year old boy, isolated and friendless, and his grandmother’s stories are the only thing that get him through the day. But when she suffers a stroke, it is left up to him to find the end of her last story. “Acholiland” was an award winning American Film Institute short film about a Northern Uganda war that raged for thirteen years. This is also writers Jason Pagan’s and Andrew Stark’s feature film screenplay debut.
Producing “Almanac” is Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Bradley Fuller of the production company Platinum Dunes. The three created the company in 2001, and initially specialized in horror films, particularly remakes. Paramount Pictures signed a first-look deal with Platinum Dunes in 2009 and the company branched out to make action, thrillers, and sci-fi films. Platinum has an impressive slate of films in various stages of development including “The Monster Squad,” which is about a group of kids who realize that Dracula, Frankenstein, and other monsters have a plot to take over the world; “The Birds,” a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 thriller about a flock of birds that take over a quiet Northern California town; and “2012: The War for Souls,” which follows an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to stop an apocalypse foreseen by the ancient Mayans.
