Casting Society of America Artios Award winning casting director Bernard Telsey of Telsey+Company is holding an open audition in Los Angeles for the 35th Anniversary Broadway revival of the musical “Annie”. Online video submissions are also being accepted. The production is casting girls between the ages of 6 and 12 years to play the roles of Annie and the orphans Molly, Pepper, Duffy, July, Tessie, and Kate. No prior acting experience is necessary, and both union and non-union girls can audition. There are NO fees to attend the open casting call. The production will open in Fall 2012 at one of the Nederlander Organization’s nine Broadway theatres to be announced.
Among being one of Broadway’s top level casting directors for stage, Bernard Telsey is also the Vice President of the Casting Society of America, and he has cast such memorable films as “The Doors,” “Independence Day,” “Finding Forrester,” “Rent,” “Sex and the City 1 & 2,” “Rachel Getting Married,” “Jonah Hex,” and the upcoming films “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” “Friends with Kids,” and “Joyful Noise”.
“So far, over 4,000 incredibly talented girls have auditioned for the roles of Annie and the orphans, through open calls and video submissions through the official website,” commented producer Arielle Tepper Madover. “As we continue the process of finding Annie and the orphans for this new production, we are holding additional open calls, to make sure we’re seeing every possible candidate for the role. We look forward to returning to Los Angeles and can’t wait to see who we find there.”
James Lapine, who has won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical three times, for “Into the Woods,” “Falsettos,” and “Passion”, five Drama Desk Awards, and the Pulitzer Prize with Stephen Sondheim for “Sunday in the Park with George”, will direct the 2012 Broadway revival of “Annie”. Known for his intelligent and visual directing style, he is sure to deliver a stylish, new production that will take Broadway by storm all over again.
“Annie” features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan which is based on the newspaper character “Little Orphan Annie” by Harold Gray. “Annie” will be produced on Broadway by Arielle Tepper Madover, Roy Furman, Sally Horchow, Jane Bergère, Roger Berlind, Roger Horchow, Debbie Bisno, Stacey Mindich, Nederlander Presentations, Inc., Daryl Roth in association with Eva Price and Christina Papagjika.

Girls, ages 6-12 of all types and any ethnicity, who are great singers, dancers and actresses are encouraged to audition. Please note that while they are searching for Tomorrow’s Annie, they will also be considering girls for all of the orphan roles.

Based on the “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip which debuted in 1924 and ran for over 80 years, “Annie” is set in Depression Era New York City at a time when the economy looked bleak, government seemed ineffective and the average citizen was desperate and frustrated. Sound familiar? With its hopeful message and unwavering belief in a better tomorrow, Annie became one of the biggest Broadway musical hits of the 1970s, running for almost six years and playing 2,377 performances. The musical won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book (Thomas Meehan) and Best Score (Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin), the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, and the Grammy for Best Cast Show Album.
