Reports have the following starring in “Star Wars: Episode VII”: Academy Award nominee Harrison Ford reprising his role as Han Solo from the original Star Wars Trilogy, and two-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee Carrie Fisher reprising the role of Princess Leia. Primetime Emmy Award nominee Billy Dee Williams is said to be on the radar to return as the character Lando Calrissian, and has stated that he would be very interested in reprising the role. No official casting announcements have been made by the studio, and no official statements have been made regarding the storyline. It is known however, that “Star Wars: Episode VII” is the first film in a third Star Wars trilogy.
Two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner J.J. Abrams will direct “Star Wars: Episode VII” from a screenplay that he is re-writing with four-time Academy Award nominee Lawrence Kasdan. Academy Award winner Michael Arndt was originally writing the script, however he exited the project in October, 2013. Kasdan has been already serving as creative consultant along with George Lucas. Abrams and cinematographer Dan Mindel are opting to shoot on Kodak 5219 35mm film instead of the now widely used digital cameras, thus giving “Star Wars: Episode VII” an aesthetically similar feel to the original Star Wars trilogy.
J.J. Abrams and Primetime Emmy Award winner Bryan Burk will produce under the banner of their company Bad Robot Productions, which is a major player in film and television productions. TV series include “Lost,” “Fringe,” “Person of Interest,” “Almost Human” and “Revolution”. Features include the 2009 “Star Trek” film, “Morning Glory” starring Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams, “Super 8” starring Elle Fanning, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” and the currently filming “Infinitely Polar Bear” starring Zoe Saldana and Mark Ruffalo. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is also producing “Star Wars: Episode VII”. Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin are executive producers, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant with Lawrence Kasdan. “Star Wars: Episode 7” is scheduled for release in 2015.
